Chris McKinney grew up in Madison, South Dakota, where he learned early that a strong work ethic opens doors. That lesson has guided him ever since—first through his college years, then into his career in military and civilian recruiting, and now in his leadership role at Summit Contracting. 

Chris graduated from the University of Sioux Falls in 2012 and soon after began serving as a Recruiter for the South Dakota Army National Guard. Through that role, he received exceptional training in leadership, team development, full-cycle recruiting, and performance management. That experience helped shape his approach to building strong teams and identifying top talent. 

He joined Summit Contracting in February 2022 and has played a key role in growing the recruiting function alongside the company's rapid expansion. Today, as Director of Recruiting, Chris leads Summit Contracting's talent acquisition strategy—developing pipelines, building partnerships, and helping teams across locations hire and retain the right people. He's especially proud of the internship and scholarship programs he has helped develop through partnerships with colleges across several states. 

What Chris enjoys most is seeing people grow into their potential. Watching new hires thrive and contribute to Summit Contracting's long-term success is what keeps him motivated. He's proud to be part of a culture where people genuinely love what they do and strive to give customers their best. 

Outside of work, Chris stays busy coaching high school wrestling and travel softball. He enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing whenever he gets a chance. He and his wife Jennifer live a full and fast-paced life with their three daughters, spending most evening cheering from the sidelines at games.
